REBECCA'S KITCHEN
Where meals are made simply, for lives lived fully
Food is never just about what sits on the plate. It is a way of thinking about the world. In these essays and reflections, I explore the deeper questions that live beneath what we eat — questions about identity, culture, memory, belonging, health, tradition, and change. Some pieces begin with a personal memory or a familiar dish. Others begin with an observation, an idea, or a quiet moment in the kitchen that opens the door to something more philosophical. At times these essays are reflective and personal, tracing the ways food shapes our lives and the stories we inherit. At other times they are more contemplative, exploring the beliefs, values, and cultural narratives that influence the way we think about nourishment, celebration, restraint, and abundance. Occasionally imagination enters the table as well. Fictional moments, characters, and imagined kitchens allow certain truths about food and human life to surface in ways that reflection alone cannot always reveal.
I hope these essays and reflections encourage you to look at the food in your own life with curiosity. The meals you remember, the recipes you inherited, the dishes you return to again and again — all of them hold stories worth telling. You don’t need to be a writer to begin. Sometimes all it takes is starting with a single dish and asking what it means to you. Browse my Food Writing Tools and Resources for help getting started with your own food writing.
